The BEST way to apply foundation

Because it will make or break that smooth, clean look you're after.

Foundation is the most important part of our makeup routine and really sets the stage for how the rest of your makeup will appear. I am in love with our Perfecting Liquid Foundation from Arbonne and am always quick to share whatever I have on hand with clients for a couple days so they can see the results themselves! With light reflecting pigments and moderate to full coverage, its a great vegan formula to use everyday or on set when lights are bright and hot and you don't want to melt. Read on for some expert tips to get a naturally radiant complexion and shoot me an email if you have any questions or just want to say hello!

Step 1: Remove Makeup & Cleanse

Cleanse the skin with your favourite Arbonne cleanser, I like to use the Exfoliating New Cell Scrub ($35) to gently exfoliate and leave the skin clean, hydrated, soft and radiant. This formulation features beta carotene derived from carrots, cucumber and watercress extracts to help soothe, calm and even out skin tone.

Step 2: Moisturize & Prime the skin

After skin is properly cleansed, apply your favourite nourishing moisturizer to rehydrate the skin. I like to use the Clear Future Mattifying Acne Lotion ($46) to keep oil at bay all day long but also helping to clear my skin. Another favourite is the RE9 Restorative Day Cream with SPF 20($61) and if you're looking for something to really knock your socks off, try the RE9 Advanced Lifting & Contouring Cream with SPF 15 ($82). Its.is.amazeballs.

Applying a Makeup Primer ($46) will ensure your foundation stays put and avoid the three o'clock face melt. Our proprietary blend features green tea leaf and grapeseed extract to condition the skin and help smooth skin and balance moisture. By minimizing the look of imperfections, this product delivers amazing results, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Essentially its wrinkle-spackle, and I gift this to ALL my hostess because it's always on their wish list anyways!

Step 3: Apply Foundation with a Foundation Brush

Using a foundation brush (we have a great set featuring one here, $42) start in the centre of your face and apply outwards. Our Perfecting Liquid Foundation ($53) comes in 15 colours and has a satin-like finish the glides on and blends easily, not to mention SPF 15 :)

Step 4: Gently Blend in a Rolling Motion

Start with a damp beauty blender (I got mine at Shoppers Drug Mart for under $5) and use a gentle touch as to not wipe away to foundation, but merely blend out

Step 5: Conceal Blemishes, Dark Spots & Redness

Using clean fingertips, tap on concealer to hide any blemishes or redness coming through. I like to use a little more foundation for this part because I've found my perfect shade and it covers so well. In the summertime I'll use this concealer but find I am too pale for our lightest shade during the rest of the year.

Step 6: Set

This step is crucial! Set with a translucent powder like Setting Pretty Translucent Loose Powder with SPF 15 ($45) using a small, natural hair brush. Gently tap off any excess products then sweep the powder only over areas that get shiny: in between eyebrows, down and around the nose, under the eyes and on the chin. You want your skin to still look like skin so don't overdo this step.
